About
Burberry, Saint Laurent, Givenchy alum. Riccardo Tisci's protégé. Kingston grad. Revolutionized jackets with modern cuts. Dressed stars in rebellious, powerful suits. L'Officiel lauded.
Joshua Lockwood, a Berkshire native and graduate of Kingston University's globally renowned College of Art, is revolutionizing classic tailoring with a modern edge. His graduate collection "Girls of Jagger" captivated the fashion world, featuring 12 looks that deftly merged traditional menswear elements with contemporary feminine flair. Inspired by Mick and Bianca Jagger, Lockwood was particularly influenced by Bianca's iconic 1970s all-white smoking suit wedding outfit, exploring her style from "1pm to 5am".
At just 23, Lockwood outshone hundreds of competitors to become Riccardo Tisci's protégé at Burberry. As a womenswear runway designer, he created boundary-pushing pieces that embodied Tisci's "sexier, more summery, more wearable" vision. His designs included standout items like bright orange logo suit jackets and leather bustier jumpsuits. This experience paved the way for his work at Saint Laurent and Givenchy in Paris from 2018 to 2019, where he further honed his runway design skills. Lockwood's signature style emerged: a passion for researching classic suit tailoring, creating new jacket silhouettes through meticulous design and modern structures, and a particular fondness for peak lapel slim-fit tailcoats. His talent for combining unexpected materials, like juxtaposing snakeskin prints with leather textures, set him apart.
Lockwood's latest collaboration with Fabrique showcases his evolution as a designer. The collection focuses on essential wardrobe items that embody contemporary elegance, featuring clean lines, precise cuts, and high-quality fabrics. It's a testament to Lockwood's ability to bridge high fashion and everyday wear, applying techniques developed at top fashion houses to create accessible yet sophisticated clothing. This project demonstrates his deep understanding of modern fashion needs, creating timeless pieces that feel both fresh and enduring. Lockwood's skill in crafting streamlined, clear silhouettes and his innovative use of materials continue to push the boundaries of modern fashion design.
