Berna Yasemin Tanyol, a Parisian designer, graduated from Institut Français de la Mode (IFM), known for its rigorous training in craftsmanship and draping. Her career began at Dior during Raf Simons' tenure, where she contributed to the 13FW and 14SS runway collections. Tanyol's work there focused on creating tailored ready-to-wear pieces and influenced Dior's high-end sportswear line.
In 2015, Tanyol joined Kenzo as a senior designer. Over four years, she developed collections that shows the blend of different cultures, creating one of a kind pieces. Her design process often started with historical photographs; for instance, she'd extract qipao aka body-hugging traditional chinese gown's prints from Republican-era Chinese images, reinventing them with contemporary colors. These inspirations translated into designs featuring asymmetric cuts and off-shoulder silhouettes, reflecting the bold expressions seen in the original photos.
Tanyol moved to Maison Kitsuné in 2019, where her designs captured Parisian style and aesthethic. Her work included autumn-inspired plaids, striped color schemes, and tailored suit sets with distinctive tie details. She also focused on perfecting cropped, boxy jackets - a staple of French casual wear. Since 2021, Tanyol has been the chief designer at Iris von Arnim, a German luxury brand established in 1975 and known for its cashmere knitwear. At Iris von Arnim, she's introducing new elements like bright orange cashmere coats and combining polka dot silk shirts with wide-leg cashmere pants. Fun, yet chic. Her recent collaboration with Fabrique draws inspiration from Hitchcock's female protagonists, resulting in a collection that balances relaxed silhouettes with a more structured tailoring.
